Progress beats perfection: How to achieve your goals every single time

If you are striving for perfection, it will never get done. Progress beats perfection every single time.

Maybe you feel it all must be perfect before you start.

Maybe you are addicted to learning it all.

Maybe you are afraid of failing.

That mindset will keep you right where you are, and in your own head.

Progress beats perfection every single time, because perfection is setting yourself up for failure.

Here is how to get out of your head and tackle those goals imperfectly.

Say no

Ever say yes even though you really wanted to say no to something you really didn’t want to do?

Here is the honest truth. Your time is precious, and you have to say no to the things that don’t serve you so you can say yes to you.

Your goals are not going to get done without you making them a priority.

Does that mean never leave your room? No.

Does that mean don’t see your family and friends till it is done? Of course not.

Does that mean that sometimes you have to make some hard decisions? Yes.

But before you jump on that shame train, let me tell you why you shouldn’t.

It is ok to want something for yourself outside of family and friends.

It is ok to have that one thing that is special to you.

It does not make you selfish.

It does not make you a bad person.

It makes you someone who believes in YOU, who has goals and dreams.

It makes you someone who wants fulfillment and happiness in your life.

It makes you someone who is taking control of your life.

It makes you someone who does not want to look back and say “I should have.”

So if that means saying no to others, to say yes to you, I applaud you.

You have the courage and bravery to honor your hopes and dreams and make them a reality.

You have the courage to not let the thoughts of what others may think, stand in your way.

is time management a skill

Set a timer and focus on progress, not perfection

If you are anything like me, you can get lost in a sea of squirrel syndrome.

Don’t check your emails.

Don’t answer your notifications.

And please, don’t go on social media and get lost in the scroll.

This is game time.

This is your special time to focus and do the work.

Maybe you are an early bird and do a little bit before the kids wake up. Maybe it is during their nap, or during lunch, or after work, or on the weekends.

Doesn’t matter when it is, as long as you make it a priority.

It could be one hour a week, it could be one hour a day.

You don’t have to learn it all, do it all, be it all, in this one moment.

You just have to focus and prioritize your goals.

Do the one thing that moves the needle

So now you probably have a list of 1,675.976 things you want to learn or implement.

Glance at it and put it away.

Write down the top 3 things from that list that move the needle forward.

Those are your goals.

This is what you are going to focus on and nothing else during that special time you set aside to focus.

Don’t overcomplicate it.

It could be a simple google search.

It could be learning how to do a specific task.

It could be taking action on one thing.

That action on one thing builds to a second thing and a third thing, and before you know it, you have learned so much, and are learning and growing as you go.

It is like my friend Dean Graziosi always says…kaizen. Continuous improvement.

It is not about comparing yourself to how fast others are doing it.

It is not about doubting yourself that you don’t know enough.

It is not about overwhelming yourself to the point of giving up.

It is about making incremental improvements over a period of time.

Will it be perfect? No.

Is it good enough? Yes.

You will improve, and tweak, and before you know it, good will become great.

From a student of knowledge, you become an expert.

Everyone starts knowing nothing until they know something.

So today, promise yourself this…..

Stop beating yourself up about how your dreams aren’t worth fighting for.

Stop telling yourself nobody will believe in you because I do.

Stop making excuses about not having the time and make the time for what is important to you.

Progress beats perfection in achieving any goal you want to achieve.

It is ultimately what takes you from A to Z.

Because your dreams are worth fighting for and people are waiting for exactly what you have to offer this world.

So get out there and share it.
